Bratunac is a town and municipality located in the west side of the river Drina’s valley, in the north-east part of Bosnia Herzegovina, on the border between Serbia and Bosnia. It is close to the Srebrenica town.

It has been scene of cruel fights between Muslims and Serbians in the period between 1992 and 1995. The peak of this conflict was on the 11th of July in 1995, when the serbo-bosnian militias took possession of Srebrenica and massacred all the male Muslims between the ages of 14 and 60.

Because of these conflicts and because of the migration, Bratunac is, now, principally inhabited by women (who are often alone or head of the family), and there are lot of elderly people. These factors influence significantly the possibilities of an economic growth.

In 2003, after the improvement of the economic and politic situation of the country, refugees begin to come back; new Villages’ Councils with members coming from different ethnic groups were developed. This was an important signal in the direction of the restoration of a positive social environment.

ACS works in Bratunac since 2002, when the “Raspberries of peace” project was launched. In 2010 started new projects: HairStyle and English Language courses.
