General aim: to be reciprocally better acquainted, for local people and immigrated populations who live in Veneto, in order to promote integration among different cultures and a cohabitation which allows to respect diversities, rights and duties of each part of the society. Specific target: to improve the knowledge about immigrants’ world (their countries, their expectations, motivations and difficulties), and to make people aware about immigration issues, with a special focus on school. Public opinion often tends to see immigrants as a single phenomenon, through generalizations and stereotypes. However it is not a single phenomenon. Thus, it is really important to improve the knowledge about it, through different opportunities of meeting each other, in particular in schools, so that younger generations will be able to face in a constructive way the challenges of a multicultural society. Mutual dialogue can help to improve the knowledge of immigrants’ reality (their countries, their expectations, motivations, the idea they have of the country they are living in and their difficulties) .This can encourage cohabitation and mutual respect, in a world where diversity is considered a benefit. The project involves both foreign communities and local citizenship, in all its areas: from schools (from primary to university) to adults. What has already been done: - analysis of immigration data in Padua - analysis of the level of knowledge of the immigration phenomenon by the citizenship in the whole of the Venice area. - interviews with immigrants from Senegal and Bangladesh living in the Padua district. - analysis of the relationships, after migrations, between people coming from the “North” and people coming from the “South” of the world - publication of “Storie dell’altro mondo. Gli immigrati si raccontano”, where the stories of immigrants coming from Senegal and Bangladesh are collected plus an interview to an Italian who experienced migration - distribution of the book and other flyers in schools, Unions’ offices, immigrants associations, etc.. - targeted distribution of this material, also done by using communication networks of the partners - academic seminar
