General aim: make people aware about women’s discrimination and violence in the world

Specific target: activate information and awareness instruments about women’s local conditions and give as much diffusion as possible to this project’s themes.

The project is directed to civil society, in particular to young people, families, especially to Italian and immigrant women and to teachers.

The diffusion of culture of rights can find fertile ground to grow in young people: they can develop a new conscience and they can reach new goals and new behaviours of responsibility towards others and, in particular, towards women.

But also adults, especially women, every day live the difficulties to confront themselves with the others, to adapt themselves to situations which can be viewed in different ways, because of different cultural backgrounds. Thus, it is important to elaborate on the women’s point of view, in order to reduce, and finally eliminate, behaviours which prevent women, and so their children and their families, from developing their potentialities to improve their and their relatives’ life.

Gender discriminations are the basis of poverty and of underdevelopment of entire population groups in lots of states in the south of the world. Further, a dialogue about women conditions allows, also at local level, to rethink some behaviours which sometimes, even unconsciously, can be seen as discriminatory by people (in particular women) with different cultural backgrounds. It is important to inform and to make aware about women conditions in the world and about the importance of women rights’ protection, in order to promote, also inside quarters, the building of a social network of positive relations and a greater awareness about “local-global” interrelations.

What has already been done

• - project presentation meeting in order to stimulate an active participation of young residents. In the press conference of presentation it was given forth to the front office activities

• - seminar with 5 lessons, each of which lasted about 3 hours, which has dealt with the main themes concerning to women’s rights (prostitution, sex tourism, women’s “double presence” and women’s immigration, women’s position in the Islam culture, women’s role in crisis context). In these seminars as speakers came experts in juridical, social and international cooperation’s field

• - publication of seminar’s description

• - open day, together with quarter’s women, with cultural and gastronomic activities

• - convention in collaboration with Padua Municipality
